Things We Love: Dad Jokes & Random Fun Facts

This is part of an ongoing series highlighting things that the team here at TWA love.

Dad Jokes

You’ve had a chance to hear about some of the food and designs that we love, now it’s time to tell you some jokes!  Seriously, we love a good dad joke in the TWA offices.

One of our team members, Mo, has got jokes for miles; she pretty much has a new one every day of the week.  Here are some of her most recent ones:

  • What do you call a zombie who cooks stir fry?  Dead man wokking!

  • What do you call a T-Rex who sells guns?  A small arms dealer.

  • What do you get when you put a duck in a cement mixer?  Quacks in the pavement!

We haven’t yet had a contest to see who laughs first (like this one) but we’re got it under wraps for now.  See!

Here are a few more:

  • I’m afraid for the calendar.  Its days are numbered.

  • What do a tick and the Eiffel Tower have in common?  They’re both Paris sites.

  • Why do seagulls fly over the ocean?  Because if they flew over the bay, we’d call them bagels.

  • How does the moon cut his hair?  Eclipse it.

  • Where do fruits go on vacation? Pear-is

  • I only know 25 letters of the alphabet.  I don’t know y.

We also love when clients tell us jokes.  Interactions like those liven up the day and remind us all that life’s too short to be serious all the time.

Random Fun Facts

As if a stable of dad jokes wasn’t enough, Mo also has plenty of random fun facts.  Here we go:

  • Ducks can shut down half their brain to conserve energy and the other half handles all their duck life needs.  If only we could do that and catch some extra Zsss while designing, printing, and installing!

  • Avocados originally had the nickname alligator pear and originates from the word testicle.  If you didn’t already know, avocados are also technically a fruit.  Because they have fleshy pulps and a seed inside, they meet all the criteria for a berry!

  • Herring fart to communicate — 60% use this skill so they know to swim to a different area.

It’s fun to consider how much about our amazing world we don’t know (and will probably never know) but these fun facts can sometimes help us think about an idea or a project differently, which is a bonus!

Here are a few more fun facts:

  • Men in Europe started wearing heels first, way back in the 10th century.  It made it easier to ride horses and stay in stirrups.  This trend caught on from the Persian calvary, which wore inch-high heels.

  • Stop signs were originally yellow.  That’s what was decided in 1922 by the American Association of State Highway Officials.  Red was considered, but there wasn’t a dye available back then that wouldn’t fade.  But by 1954 sign makers had fade-resistant porcelain enamel, and that’s when red, which was already preferred because of its association with traffic lights, came to be used everywhere.

  • Green Eggs and Ham came from a bet.  Random House founder Bennett Cerf bet Dr. Suess that Dr. Suess couldn’t write a book using fewer than 50 different words.  Mr. Cerf lost that bet, but we got a priceless classic in return.

So, next time you’re in our office give us your best dad joke or random fun fact.  We might even have a prize for you!
